A journey to find the perfect Video Tape Transfer Process

When we set out to create Video Tape Pros, we realized something very important. We didn’t want to produce a video transfer service that was equal to our competition. Our goal was to produce a process that was the best in the business. For months, we tested many different types of hardware and software configurations. Finally, we reached our goal.

We’re all very proud to offer our service to you. We understand how important your home video tapes are. They hold precious memories that should be watched and shared with family and friends.

We look forward to helping you.

Superior Technology

The Benefits of Our Service:

Here at our transfer facility, we address all of the major issues that our customers have had with other video transfer companies. Many of our competitors leave video edge noise at the top and bottom of your video frame. We remove that noise, because it’s distracting during playback. We also remove any video noise or picture anomaly that may appear along the left and right edge of your video frame.

Other issues that our customers have had, (with our competitors) is the video resolution and aspect ratio of their finalized .MP4 video files. Often times their video resolution is set to either 640x480 or 720x480. In today’s world, these low standard definition resolutions can cause issues when viewing on devices or uploading to social media. Sometimes other video transfer companies even put black vertical pillars on either side of the customer’s footage. This effect appears when the aspect ratio has been incorrectly set to 16x9. Here at Video Tape Pros, we upscale your transferred video resolution to 1440x1080. This sets the vertical pixel resolution to the same as Full HD, but it keeps the aspect ratio at 4x3, as it was originally recorded.

Finally, the most difficult problem to overcome (in the video tape transfer business) is the fact that Standard Definition Analog Video is Interlaced. Basically, that means that for every frame of video, there is a stack of offset even and odd field lines. For many years, the only way to create clean progressive video from interlaced video was to use a deinterlacing filter on the the captured footage. These filters were able to remove the “comb effect” on anything moving in the footage, however they caused a blocky stepped look on the edges of objects in the video.

Here at Video Tape Pros, we use a more elegant solution to solve the problem of interlaced video. Our unique process allows us to capture two distinct progressive frames from every one interlaced video frame. The first progressive frame comes from the stack of even field lines and the second progressive frame comes from the stack of odd field lines. Now, instead of having 29.97 frames per second, we end up with 59.94 frames per second (otherwise known as 60p). This completely fixes the blocky stepped edges look (that deinterlacing filters create). But, more importantly, our process achieves a video playback smoothness that perfectly replicates how older CRT televisions would display standard definition interlaced video. And we accomplish all of this while keeping the audio and video perfectly in sync. We believe that this unique combination of techniques places the quality of our transfer service far above the results of our competition.

But, as impressive as our technology is, our customer service is even more impressive. Please contact us with any questions you may have!
